Apparently Christopher Cox, chairman of the SEC has convened a conference call today for global regulators to discuss short selling. Apparently they are going to examine the effectiveness of the restrictions / bans / controls that have been announced, implemented and in some cases removed this year.
It will be interesting to see what the outcome will be. I have yet to see any evidence that shows the restrictions have had a positive impact on markets and at least a couple of pieces of research that indicate a negative impact. If you see any news on the conference, feel free to send it through and I'll include it tomorrow.
